Terms of service
The terms for using Mimir
These terms cover the Mimir reading app and the optional Mimir community (the Social tab, share links and the pages at mimir-reader.app). By using either, you agree to them. How we handle your data is described separately in the privacy policy.
Using Mimir
Mimir is free. It is currently a beta, distributed through Apple's TestFlight, so features may change, break or disappear, and the service may be unavailable at times. You need to be at least 13 years old to use the community.
Your books
Mimir does not sell or supply books. You are responsible for having the right to read the files you import, and Mimir does not open books protected by digital rights management. Narration and audiobooks are generated on your device from the books you import, for your own personal use.
Your community account
An account is for one person. Keep your password to yourself; you are responsible for what is done with your account. Your username must not impersonate someone else.
What you post
You keep ownership of what you write and share. By posting it to the community, or creating a share link, you allow us to store it, show it to the people it is meant for, and display it on its share page, only to run Mimir. That permission ends when you delete the content or your account, except where someone else already received it (a direct message, for example).
Quote passages the way readers always have: short excerpts, credited to their book and author. Do not post whole chapters or anything else you do not have the right to share.
Community rules
Do not use Mimir to:
- harass, threaten or bully anyone, or post hateful content;
- post anything illegal, sexual content involving minors, or content that infringes someone else's rights;
- spam, scam, or impersonate a person or organisation;
- interfere with the service, probe it for weaknesses, or access other people's accounts or data.
We may remove content that breaks these rules and suspend or close the accounts that post it. Book clubs can have their own rules on top of these, enforced by their owners and moderators.
Sharing to other apps
Mimir can hand a passage to other apps, such as X, Threads, Instagram, Facebook and TikTok, as a link, an image or a story. Mimir never posts for you: it opens the app you pick with the content ready, and you decide whether to publish it. Once it is there, that service's own terms and privacy policy apply to it.
AI reading companion
The optional AI companion uses your own key with a third-party provider, under that provider's terms. Its answers can be wrong; do not rely on them as professional advice.
No warranty
Mimir is provided as is, without warranties of any kind. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for lost data, lost notes, or any indirect damages arising from using Mimir. Keep your own copies of books and notes that matter to you.
Ending
You can stop using Mimir at any time. To delete your community account, email us with your username, as described in the privacy policy. We may suspend or end the community service, or an account that breaks these terms.
Changes
If these terms change in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and note the change in the app's release notes. Continuing to use Mimir after that means you accept the new terms.

Mimir is built and operated by Dave Bourbeau. Questions about these terms: bourbeau.dave@gmail.com.
